Murphy’s Law
May 6, 2009

According to “Murphy’s Law” whatever can go wrong, will probably go wrong. This “law” fairly well describes the Republicans. They were able to lose the Senate seat in Alaska based on unproven information, which was proven to be full of false facts but was not discovered until after the defeat of Senator Stevens. Then a House seat defeat in Upstate N.Y. and currently a battle in Minnesota over a Senate seat.

On top of that, here comes Senator Spector who Bush bailed out of a possible loss in the 2004 election with a “Jumpin Jim” move that puts Barack close to a veto proof Senate. Finally, there is General Powell castigating Republicans for being too mean-spirited with the likes of Limbaugh and Coulter. As a former member of The Bush’s cabinet, is there such a thing as loyalty? Where was Colin Powell as the Democrats and the media demonized George Bush on a daily basis?

On a far different topic, Eugene Robinson, a writer for a liberal newspaper, wonders why the N.Y. Times and the Boston Globe (and he could have mentioned the San Francisco Chronicle and McClatchy newspapers) are having financial problems and declining circulation. In addition to poor corporate decisions like loading up on long-term debt and buying newspapers as the industry began to “tank”, the real reason is easy to explain: like liberal talk radio, liberal newspapers with their bias agenda, and printing opinions rather than news facts finally got its reward from its readers - "Cancel my subscription!”

Senator Durbin, Democrat from Illinois, sponsored an amendment in the omnibus spending bill that ended the Opportunity Scholarship Program. This program was used by over 1,700 school kids to withdraw from failing public schools. Barack Obama was silent since his daughters attend the exclusive Sidwell Friends School. Obama had a change of heart and will permit the existing voucher program to continue for existing students but no more after that. Do the black voters have any idea how the liberal Democrats put them down, since it is mostly minority students that benefit from the voucher program. The Democrats are in bed with the teacher’s unions and what ever the unions tell them, they follow like robots.

I am currently happy about the nice upside rally on Wall Street. Natural forces are showing up with increasing inventory accumulation, some good profit reports, more liquidity in the banking system and better underwriting for capital expansion. Now all Obama and his income tax deficient staff have to do is to get the hell out of the way. Despite Obama and his off the wall economics, perhaps cooler heads will prevail and our economy might avoid his over regulation, excessive tax increases and destructive health care agenda.
